MSET, QTLS, PGCE, BA(Hons), AIDTA, Acrobatic Arts, Alixa-Flexibility
Miss Alex has trained in many dance genres since the age of 3, and at age 15 qualified as an Associate Teacher of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). Following achieving her GCSE’s, Miss Alex attended college and gained 4 A-levels (Dance, Performing Arts, Psychology, and Law), before attending university where she graduated with a BA(Hons) Dance Practice Degree. After this, Miss Alex gained her Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), that specialised in teaching dance and performing arts where her work was consistently awarded OFSTED Outstanding. She then completed her professional formation, the Qualified Teacher of Learning & Skills (QTLS), which also specialised in teaching dance.
Whilst at university, Miss Alex set up four after-school dance clubs under the name Locomotion Dance Studios, and continued to study for additional Associate (Level 4) IDTA teaching qualifications in the 6 Subjects offered at Locomotion. After achieving her BA(Hons) and QTLS, Miss Alex taught A-Level dance and performing arts at a further education college, and later the GSCE syllabus in a secondary school, where she maintained her outstanding OFSTED status.
Alongside her mainstream teaching, Miss Alex began delivering National Curriculum dance workshops to local primary schools, and in October 2017 with the support and encouragement of the dance schools she was working in at the time, set up IDTA dance lessons in the evening and at a weekend for children and adults. Following the growth of Locomotion Dance Studios, in September 2019, Locomotion Dance Studios became Miss Alex’s full-time career.
Miss Alex continues to advance her teaching practice by studying for additional teaching examinations with the IDTA and other exams boards such as Acrobatic Arts and Alixa Flexibility, along with participating in regular CPD including safeguarding, behaviour management, autism awareness, and other essential .
The word "Locomotion" derives from the Latin words loco (place) and motio (to move).
Locomotion is a self-propelled, specific, directional movement that enables someone or something to move from one place to another, in response to external or internal stimuli.
